In the 19th century we saw the migration or transfer of male workers who instead of working in farms moved on to factories and offices while now in the 20th century we see women instead of being a house wife going to work . The roles that used to describe a family have changed over a period of time and instead of one partner staying at home and doing the house chores, both are working outside but due to the high income of partners and surplus income, many can afford maids to take care of chores while they enjoy a nice dinner at a nice restaurant.

The number of double income couples has increased in this 21st century and there are close to 50% of households in the US who have double income couples although this might decrease due to the financial crisis of 2008.
